Webinar Overview

ON DEMAND

ZFS was introduced in 2001 to make storage administration easier by combining the filesystem with the volume manager, introducing new levels of redundancy, and a much simpler user interface, ZFS works for most common use cases out-of-the-box, but to get the most out of it requires understanding what it is doing, and how each of the tuning knobs impacts it.

In our recording from BSDCan 2022, Klara Inc. CTO Allan Jude discusses OpenZFS. We begin by describing various techniques for utilizing the new per-vdev properties feature that was added to OpenZFS in late 2021. We then move on to talk about how to use these properties to extract useful metrics, improve the management of both the pool and the underlying hardware, and add custom properties to drive further automation and documentation.

Your takeaways after the webinar:

  • Techniques to utilize the new per-vdev properties feature in OpenZFS.
  • Methods to extract useful metrics and improve management of the pool and hardware.
  • How to add custom properties for enhanced automation and documentation.
Duration: 1h.
