ON DEMAND
Join our post-conference BSD discussion on June 30, 2026.

This year’s BSDCan, North America’s premier technical conference for the BSD operating system community, highlights major developments across FreeBSD, OpenZFS, virtualization, storage, networking, security, and modern infrastructure.

We’re excited to announce that Klara will host a live post-event Ask Me Anything session where we’ll share what we learned at BSDCan and discuss the biggest announcements, technical updates, and FreeBSD developments relevant to production environments.

This session is your chance to:

  • Catch the biggest BSDCan takeaways
  • Ask FreeBSD and OpenZFS experts questions live
  • Understand which BSDCan updates are most relevant for FreeBSD operators and infrastructure teams

Top Questions from the Session—Answered!

🗨️  What's the biggest change coming to FreeBSD operators this year?

Security remains a major focus for FreeBSD this year. The Security Team has addressed more vulnerabilities in the last few months than in a typical year, with many identified through AI-assisted analysis. More security updates are expected as these improvements continue to roll out.

🗨️  What is the current status of Package Base in FreeBSD 15?

Package Base has matured significantly. FreeBSD 15 makes package-based system management the long-term direction for the operating system. Existing systems will migrate with the pkgbase-ify tool, and future releases will continue the transition away from freebsd-update.

🗨️  What's next for FreeBSD?

Cloud infrastructure and lightweight virtualization remain key priorities. Development continues across major cloud platforms, with further improvements planned beyond EC2. FreeBSD also continues to invest in smaller virtual machines and ready-to-use VM images that simplify workload isolation, increase deployment agility, and strengthen security boundaries.
