BSDCan 2022 Recording – ZFS

ZFS VDEV Properties

Check out CTO Allan Jude talking at BSDCan 2022 talks about recent features added in OpenZFS

ZFS VDEV Properties

ZFS was introduced in 2001 to make storage administration easier by combining the filesystem with the volume manager, introducing new levels of redundancy, and a much simpler user interface, ZFS works for most common use cases out-of-the-box, but to get the most out of it requires understanding what it is doing, and how each of the tuning knobs impacts it.

In our recording from BSDCan 202, Klara Inc. CTO Allan Jude talks about OpenZFS. We start by describing various techniques to utilize the new per-vdev properties feature that was added to OpenZFS in late 2021.

Then we move on talking about how to use these properties to extract useful metrics, to improve ease of management of both the pool and the underlying hardware, and how to add custom properties to drive further automation and documentation.

Duration: 1h.
