About The Job
As an OpenZFS Solutions Specialist, you will report to the ZFS Engineering Manager where you will be primarily responsible for working as part of a team to design and implement storage solutions, perform configuration and performance audits, as well as investigating and resolving issues with the ZFS file system.
This work includes apply automation and best practices, detecting and root-causing performance issues, managing upgrades and expansions, and otherwise maintaining and monitoring existing storage systems. You will work directly with customers to drive data recovery projects and assist with debugging customer issues on customer systems.
Key Responsibilities
Work as part of a remote global team to support customers’ infrastructure
Make hardware selection/recommendation for new deployments
Pool layout design, review, and optimization, recommending configuration and tuning changes
Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and expansions
Investigating performance and related issues from the application down to the hardware
Monitoring and auditing existing systems to ensure best practices are being followed
Create customer documentation with recommended configuration and summarizing results
Skills and Qualifications
Extensive experience with OpenZFS in production
In-depth knowledge of OpenZFS tunables, configuration, and properties
Ability to deliver projects on-time and according to schedule
Proficiency with benchmarking and performance analysis
Experience working directly with customers and end users
Previous Storage Administrator experience
Proven ability to investigate and root-cause complex issues
Excellent verbal and written communication
Background in writing customer documentation
Familiarity or experience participating in open-source projects
Must be self-motivated and ability to multitask
Previous experience with Python, lua, or C programming is a plus
